Nel luglio 1896, una compagnia tedesca di stanza a Metz effettuò delle manovre e costruì un ponte di legno. Gli scultori hanno inciso una targa commemorativa nell'arenaria per lasciare traccia del loro passaggio. Hanno anche scavato una "camera" in una roccia vicina. Potevano immaginare che durante la guerra del 1939/45 i soldati russi, prigionieri di guerra a Ban Saint-Jean, sarebbero fuggiti e si sarebbero rifugiati in questa "grotta"? Gli abitanti della zona portarono loro del cibo per solidarietà.
