Il 28 novembre 1655 Bologna offrì uno spettacolo gigantesco alla regina Cristina di Svezia, che interruppe il suo viaggio verso Roma. In Piazza Maggiore, dal Palazzo d'Accursio sul lato ovest fino alla pescheria (oggi Via Pecherie Vecchie) sul lato est, fu costruito un teatro temporaneo a forma di enorme nave. La gloria della città veniva celebrata in un'opera allegorica. Lo spettacolo si è concluso con un classico torneo in stile romano.
