De cisterciënzerabdij ‘Notre Dame du Val-Dieu’ ligt in het hart van hetLand van Herve. Zij is het vertrekpunt van dit parcours van ongeveer10 km, dat twee regionale wandelingen omvat: de ‘Balade de Saint-Jean-Sart’ en de ‘Balade du Chemin du Diable’. Tijdens de wandelingwisselen hagen, holle wegen, weiden en toefjes bos, schilderachtigedorpen en boerderijen elkaar af. De Abdij werd in 1216 door cisterciënzersgesticht in de vallei van de Berwinne, die vroeger de naam ‘Duivelsdal’ had. Om het noodlot te bezweren, doopten de monnikende vallei Val-Dieu, de vallei van God. Op aanvraag is een rondleiding in de abdij mogelijk. Mogelijkheid om een hapje te eten in de bistro van de abdij, de ‘Casse-Croûte’ en ook in het restaurant ‘Le Moulin du Val Dieu’ in de naburige molen.
