Het Leeuwenmonument aan de Königsallee, direct naast de Schiller-School, is het gemeentelijke oorlogsmonument voor de zonen van de stad Bochum die in de Eerste Wereldoorlog 1914–18 zijn gevallen.
De overdimensionale, door een pijlschot in de rechterzijde dodelijk getroffen, stenen leeuw brult zijn pijn in de richting van de "aartsvijand" Frankrijk en herinnert beeldend aan de slachtoffers van deze Eerste Wereldoorlog.
De inscriptie op de sokkel wil de gevoelens van een naoorlogse generatie rechtvaardigen:
