Het gebouw was aanvankelijk eigendom van de koetsverhuurbedrijf Auguste Wirtgen. Na zijn dood ging het pand in 1889 in het bezit van de gemeente, die het tot 1959 als gemeentehuis gebruikte. Naast de administratie en de Stedelijke Kunstgalerie van Diekirch herbergt het vandaag de dag onder andere klassen van de Diekircher tak van de muziekschool Conservatoire de Musique du Nord.
