Ooit stond het op het Bellamypark, nu prijkt het standbeeld van Frans Naerebout -de oervader van het Vlissingse loodswezen- op de Boulevard De Ruyter.
Naerebout (1748-1818) had als VOC-loods de taak schepen veilig in en uit de Scheldemonding te begeleiden. Het was dezelfde Frans Naerebout die in juli 1779 meer dan 80 opvarenden van een zinkende Oost-Indiëvaarder, 'De Woestduyn', wist te redden. In 1788 verspeelde een ander schip, de 'Zuiderburg' zijn roer, terwijl het onderweg was naar China en 400 man aan boord had. Ook dit schip dreigde te zinken en dreef zes dagen rond tussen de ijsschotsen. Opnieuw wist Naerebout dit schip te bereiken en bracht het met allerlei trucs veilig naar het Engelse Plymouth.
