Aalten is een esdorp en de grootste plaats van de gelijknamige gemeente in het oosten van de Nederlandse provincie Gelderland, die ligt tegen de Duitse grens. Op 1 januari 2011 telde het dorp Aalten in totaal 12.935 inwoners. Aalten ligt in het oostelijke deel van Nederland in de provincie Gelderland in de Achterhoek, ongeveer in het midden van de noord-zuidlijn Lichtenvoorde - Bocholt (D) en in het midden van de west-oostlijn Varsseveld - Winterswijk.
