Chakangrao (antica Kamphaeng Phet) aveva lo stesso concetto di pianificazione urbana di Sukhothai e Si Satchanalai, con zone separate per i siti religiosi, sia all'interno che all'esterno dei confini della città. Chakangrao era situato in una posizione strategica vicino al fiume Ping. La città era un avamposto ed era fortificata con un alto muro di difesa e fortezze, tutte costruite in laterite. La città rettangolare misurava da 300 a 700 metri di larghezza e 2.200 metri di lunghezza.
Una zona all'interno delle mura della città, che copre un'area di 503 rais, include Wat Phra Kaeo, Wat Phra That, il Palazzo Antico (Sa Mon), il Santuario di Siva, le mura della città, il fossato e le fortificazioni.
