In Okegem bei Ninove entstand das Gedankengut der daensistischen Bewegung. Das ist kein Zufall, denn hier gab es seit den 1880er Jahren eine organisierte Strömung von christlich flämisch gesinnten und antisozialistischen Kleinunternehmern und Intellektuellen. Die Mitglieder nannten sich die Roelanders, nach ihrer Wochenzeitschrift Klokke Roeland. Boon beschreibt, wie Pieter Daens und die Roelanders sich zum ersten Mal im April 1893 in einem 'kelderkamerke' eines kleinen Gasthauses am Okegemer Bahnhof trafen. Während dieser Versammlung wurde die Christliche Volkspartei gegründet. Pieters Bruder, Priester Adolf Daens, wurde später das Aushängeschild der Bewegung.
