Es el único en Flandes, construido entre 1862 y 1863, destruido en 1918 durante la retirada de los alemanes y rápidamente restaurado para hacer nuevamente transitable la concurrida línea ferroviaria Oudenaarde-Ronse-Leuze. El túnel ferroviario sirvió durante la II Guerra Mundial una noche como refugio para Hitler en su "tren blindado". En un día de invierno de 1966, un trozo del Spichtenberg se deslizó hacia abajo hasta cubrir la cama del ferrocarril, justo antes de la entrada del túnel, lo que interrumpió el tráfico ferroviario Oudenaarde-Ronse durante más de un año.
