La colonia minera de Hervest fue establecida en 1912 entre la actual calle Halterner y el Lippe: en el lado este se creó el área católica con la escuela José y la iglesia de José, y en el lado oeste el distrito evangélico con la escuela Augusta y la actual iglesia de la Cruz.
Hoy en día las minas están cerradas, el trabajo ya no está a la puerta de casa. "El nuevo uso de la superficie minera y la creación de empleos sostenibles son un gran desafío", confiesa Lütkenhorst, quien reconoce que la transformación estructural aún no ha dado los resultados esperados. Sin embargo, no se debe hablar mal del barrio de Hervest: gracias a la rehabilitación y modernización, la colonia ha desarrollado un encanto muy particular.
