Aquest museu es troba a l' antic Mont-de-Piete , un edifici monumental del Renaixement espanyol (1622).
El Museu Arqueològic té col·leccions excepcionals des de la prehistòria fins a l'edat mitjana , incloent un sarcòfag del segle IV.
Des dels neandertals a les planes de l'Escalda fa 70.000 anys, fins als caçadors del paleolític i els agricultors del neolític: els tournai han proporcionat rastres del seu hàbitat i les seves eines en nombrosos llocs.
S'hi exposen peces de prestigi procedents d'excavacions recents i classificades com a “Tresor de la Federació Valònia-Brussel·les” : un sarcòfag de plom del segle IV amb una decoració remarcable (necròpolis galo-romana a la Rue Perdue) i elements excepcionals del barri de Saint-Brice on, el 481 Childeric, el pare de Clodoveu, els seus cavalls i el seu seguici foren enterrats.
