El 1875, al final de la seva vida, la soltera Virgenie De Braeckeleer va manar construir aquesta capella.
Per assegurar el benestar de la família, el seu germà Theodoor va incloure al testament que l'administració de l'església rebés la suma de 15 francs per a la seva manutenció durant 50 anys. Una quantitat gens menyspreable en aquella època.
Val la pena fer una ullada a l'interior de la capella de la Mare de Déu de Lourdes.
La capella, coneguda a Woubrechtegem com la Grote Kapel, és una joia i els residents locals la mantenen impecable. Era una parada habitual durant la processó que recorria el poble cada any.
