La capital de Haut-Doubs en la región de Franche-Comté es Pontarlier. Tiene dos activos principales: las destilerías de absenta y un museo del automóvil de 8000 m². Hasta 1915, Pontarlier fue la capital de la absenta, un licor verde amargo basado en la planta Artemisia absinthium. El licor contiene alrededor del 75 % de alcohol. Era, sin duda, la bebida favorita de las 'personas creativas'. Se sabe que Vincent Van Gogh, Guy de Maupassant, Oscar Wilde y Ernest Hemingway eran grandes consumidores de este licor. Se volvió prohibido cuando el suizo Jean Lanfray mató a toda su familia después de consumir demasiado vino y absenta. Se asumió que el thujón tóxico presente en la absenta era la causa principal del asesinato. Ahora puedes obtener absenta nuevamente, pero el thujón tóxico ha sido eliminado.
El Musée Sbarro lleva el nombre de Franco Sbarro, un constructor y diseñador de automóviles italiano que trabajó en sus Ateliers de Construction Automobile (ACA) en Grandson, Suiza, cerca del lago de Neuchâtel.
