The Todt Battery is named after Fritz Todt was a general, but above all an engineer of the 3rd Reich, and a good friend of Adolf Hitler. The latter entrusted him with the construction of the motorways in Germany in 1933 with the aim of reducing unemployment.
In 1935 he founded a paramilitary organization: the OT (Organization Todt). He had the OT realize the Siegfried Line with a view to Operation Seelöwe (the invasion of England). This project was canceled in 1940 by Hitler, and the Siegfried Line was transformed into part of the Atlantic Wall defense line.
On February 8, 1942, the Junkers JU 52 carrying doctor Fritz Todt mysteriously crashed on take-off. There were no survivors. Battery Siegfried was renamed Battery Todt on February 10, 1942 in honor of its master builder.
