A la gent li hauria agradat tenir un cementiri al voltant de l'església al costat de l'antic castell 't Blauwhuis .
El baró Conrad van der Bruggen es va oposar a això perquè sempre tindria una vista del cementiri. Va proposar revertir el cementiri i el govern va aixecar la primera creu del cementiri l'any 1897, ara situada a l'altra banda de la carretera de l'actual cementiri.
Finalment , el baró van der Bruggen va donar un tros de terra a l'església una mica més lluny , de nou hi va haver oposició. Però el pastor Canepeel va fer consagrar el cementiri i hi van ser enterrats els feligresos. El primer enterrament va ser el de Maria Ludovica Deneweth, germana de l'Orde Doncellas de Maria. L'any 1905 el cementiri i el camí que hi van anar van ser donats a la fàbrica de l'església i el 1906 el baró Maurits van der Bruggen va concedir permís per utilitzar el carril de "De Varens" per a la processó fúnebre.
