Whitby Abbey ist ein ehemaliges Kloster in Whitby, einer historischen Hafenstadt an der Nordseeküste der Grafschaft Yorkshire in England. Die Ruine ist seit 1954 als Grade-I-Bauwerk in der National Heritage List for England gelistet.
Whitby Abbey wurde 657 n. Chr. von König Oswiu von Northumbrien als Doppelkloster für Männer und Frauen gegründet und erhielt zunächst den Namen Streoneshalch. Schon unter der ersten Äbtissin des Klosters, der später heiliggesprochenen Hilda, wurde Whitby Abbey berühmt für sein Bildungswesen und die enge Beziehung zur königlichen Familie in Northumbrien. 664 n. Chr. fand hier die Synode von Whitby statt. Hilda war Anhängerin des keltischen Brauchtums, führte aber nach der Synode auch in ihrem Kloster den römische Ritus und das römische Osterdatum ein.
