Op een van de mooiste pleintjes van Athene vind je het monument van Lisikratos. Het pleintje noemt dan ook de Platia Lisikratous. Het monument dat je hier ziet dateert uit 333 voor Chr en werd ook bekeken door zowel Lord Byron als Chateaubriand die hier aan het plein verbleven tijdens hun bezoek aan Athene. In die tijd was er rond dit monument een klooster gebouwd. Dit klooster werd vernietigd in 1824 door de Turk Omar Pasha tijdens de Griekse Onafhankelijkheidsoorlog.
Chateaubriand verwerkte zijn verhalen van de stad in zijn boeken "Les Martyrs" en "Itinéraire de Paris à Jerusalem".
