Le Tribunal fédéral est l'autorité judiciaire suprême de la Confédération suisse, ainsi qu'en dispose l'article 188 de la Constitution suisse. Il est composé de 38 juges ordinaires et 19 juges suppléants.
Le Tribunal fédéral est chargé de veiller à l’application uniforme du droit fédéral, et au respect des droits fondamentaux en Suisse et à la conformité du droit cantonal avec le droit supérieur. Il statue en dernière instance. Contrairement à d’autre pays, le Tribunal fédéral n’est pas une juridiction constitutionnelle : il n’a pas le pouvoir de contrôler la conformité des lois fédérales avec la Constitution fédérale.
