La Cour suprême des États-Unis est le sommet du pouvoir judiciaire aux États-Unis et le tribunal de dernier ressort. C'est l'article III de la Constitution des États-Unis qui institue une Cour suprême et autorise le Congrès à instituer des tribunaux inférieurs, ce qu'il a fait. Conformément à l'article III, la Cour suprême est compétente sur tous les cas relevant de la Constitution ou des lois des États-Unis et des traités qu'ils ont conclus. La devise de la Cour suprême est « Equal Justice under Law » .
Elle siège à Washington D.C., dans le bâtiment de la Cour suprême, non loin du Capitole où elle siégeait jusqu'en 1935, année d'achèvement de la construction de son propre bâtiment.
