Pascal Verbeken beskriver i sin smukke bog 'Grand Central Belge' hvordan det belgiske parlament i 1892 godkendte loven om indførelsen af én standardtid i hele kongeriget. Denne tidsbestemmelse blev foretaget på Det Kongelige Meteorologiske Institut i Belgien i Uccle og blev videregivet til stationschefen for Bruxelles-Nord. Denne stationschef fik alle stationsure til at blive stillet ens. Men vidste du, at de kommunale myndigheder, der ikke anvendte den officielle tid på tårn- og andre offentlige ure, fik problemer med retten.
