Pascal Verbeken describes in his beautiful book 'Grand Central Belge' how in 1892 the Belgian Parliament approved the law on the introduction of one standard time throughout the kingdom. This time determination was carried out at the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium in Ukkel and was communicated to the stationmaster of Brussels-North.
