Minesteden i Bois-du-Luc, der blev udvundet fra det 17. århundrede, udvikler sig i det 19. århundrede. Mellem 1838 og 1853 bygger ledelsen ved siden af byen kvarteret Les Carrés for at tiltrække og fastholde sine arbejdere. Dette sandelig byplanlægningskompleks til tjeneste for industrien, som Grand-Hornu, vil bestå af 162 arbejderboliger. Talrige serviceydelser skal sikre arbejdernes velfærd: købmandsbutik, skoler, hospital, festlokale osv. Efter lukningen i 1973 står et Vidnesbyrdsmuseum for opgradering af minesiden og mere generelt for den industrielle erindring. Det huser i centrum af sin indre gård SAICOM (Bevarelse af industrielle arkiver fra Couchant-bassinet i Mons), hvor alle typer industrielle arkiver opbevares.
