Over ældre lov- eller rådhuse er der lidt kendt. I 1792 mødtes retten i kroen 'Det lille slot' på torvet, muligvis den samme plads som det nuværende rådhus. Neogotisk bygning fra 1895, efter design af arkitekt Jean-Eduard Bouwens (Mechelen 1840 – Dendermonde 1897). Arkitekt Bouwens var byarkitekt i Dendermonde siden 1862 og også lærer ved Akademiet i den by. Han fik sin uddannelse fra sin far Franciscus-Johannes, der selv var byarkitekt i Mechelen og underviste på akademiet, hvor også Jean-Eduard studerede. Han afsluttede sin uddannelse i Nijvel og blev i 1859 byarkitekt i Diest og direktør for Diest akademiet. Fem af hans projekter er optaget i Inventarlisten over bygningsarv.
