I 1731 brændte Paladset Op de Coudenberg, hvor herskerne fra Bourgondië, Brabant, Spanien og Østrig havde regeret siden det 13. århundrede. Den 24. december 1654 konverterede dronning Christina af Sverige her i hemmelighed til den romersk-katolske tro. Fejringen fandt sted i ærkebiskop Leopold Wilhelm af Østrigs private kapel. I dag finder man Belvue Museum her.
