Im Jahr 1731 brannte der Palast Op de Coudenberg ab, in dem seit dem 13. Jahrhundert die Herrscher von Burgund, Brabant, Spanien und Österreich regierten. Am 24. Dezember 1654 konvertierte Königin Christina von Schweden hier heimlich zum römisch-katholischen Glauben. Die Feier fand in der Privatkapelle des Erzherzogs Leopold Wilhelm von Österreich statt. Heutzutage befindet sich hier das Belvue Museum.
