Fæstningen Eben-Emael er stadig et militært område. Beliggende ved Albertkanaal var det et vigtigt strategisk punkt for den belgiske forsvar i øst. Den vigtigste opgave for fæstningen var at forbyde overfarten af Albertkanaal og Maas. Også det såkaldte "Visé-hul" syd for fæstningen blev forsvaret. I dag er der ikke kun arrangeret besøg i fæstningen, men vi finder også et specialiseret museum med materiale, uniformer, våben osv. fra 1940. Det kan betragtes som museet for slaget ved Albertkanaal den 10. og 11. maj 1940, hvor mere end 700 belgiske soldater mistede livet.
