Fortificato lungo il Canale Alberto, in un luogo strategico, il Forte di Eben-Emael rimane un'area militare. La fortezza aveva come compito principale quello di bloccare il passaggio del Canale Alberto e della Mosa e difendere anche la valle della Mosa tra Visé e Maastricht. Oltre alla fortezza, c'è anche un museo del 1940 specializzato in materiali, uniformi, armi e altro, che funge anche da museo per la battaglia del 10 e 11 maggio 1940 attorno al Canale Alberto. In questa battaglia morirono circa 700 soldati belgi.
