For at nå søen skal man over Rhonedalen. Fra Sion kører man til den sidste større by Fortunau. Derefter fører en snoet bjergvej op til søen. Til fods kan man også komme til søen fra Kanton Bern via Rawilpass eller Schnidejoch.
Oprindeligt skulle Simmentalmotorvejen gå over Rawil-passet ind i Valais - en tunnel ville have ligget tæt på Tzeuzier-dæmningen. Da der under sonderingsboringer skete større bevægelser i muren end forventet, blev søniveauet ikke kun sænket; det var en af grundene til, at motorvejen blev forsinket i årevis, indtil den endelig blev opgivet. Med Lötschberg-basis tunnelen blev den helt obsolet.
