KZ Salzgitter-Bad blev oprettet i september 1944 af SS og Hermann-Göring-Werken som en underlejlighed til KZ Neuengamme i Salzgitter-Bad.
I et tidligere "civilarbejderlejr" med nummer 43 fra "Bergbau- und Hüttenbedarf AG" blev cirka 500 kvinder indkvarteret i fire barakker i Salzgitter-Bad, som var blevet overført fra KZ Ravensbrück og KZ Bergen-Belsen til Salzgitter. I "AG for Bergbau- und Hüttenbedarf", et datterselskab af Hermann-Göring-Werken, og i underleverandøren "Kleineisenwerk Salzgitter" blev de brugt i våbenproduktionen. Blandt kvinderne var der adskillige polakker, der var blevet arresteret under opstanden i Warszawa.
