Slottet blev bygget fra 1859 til 1861 for Theodor Hermann Rimpau, lederen af dræningarbejdet i Drömling. Arkitekten var en elev af Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Bygge stilen var inspireret af villaer i Berlin-Tiergarten. I 1905 overtog en svigersøn af Rimpau, Wilhelm Beseler, bygningen. I 1909 fulgte en ombygning i stil med den italienske renæssance. I den nederste del af slots tårnet befandt der sig en vinterhave.
Efter afslutningen af Anden Verdenskrig fandt der plyndringer og ødelæggelser sted, hvortil det værdifulde inventar af slottet faldt offer. Der fulgte en brug af slottet som flygtningebolig indtil 1949. Dernæst blev bygningen ombygget til et kulturhus. De fire selskabslokaler på første sal blev ombygget til én stor sal.
