Il castello fu costruito dal 1859 al 1861 per Theodor Hermann Rimpau, il responsabile dei lavori di miglioramento nel Drömling. L'architetto era un allievo di Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Lo stile architettonico si ispirava a ville di Berlino-Tiergarten. Nel 1905, un genero di Rimpau, Wilhelm Beseler, assunse la gestione dell'edificio. Seguì nel 1909 una ristrutturazione in stile rinascimentale italiano. Nella parte inferiore della torre del castello si trovava una serra.
Dopo la fine della Seconda Guerra Mondiale ci furono saccheggi e distruzioni, a cui cadde vittima il prezioso mobilio del castello. Seguì fino al 1949 un utilizzo del castello come rifugio per profughi. Successivamente, l'edificio fu trasformato in una casa della cultura. Le quattro sale di rappresentanza del primo piano furono convertite in un grande salone.
