Das Schloss wurde von 1859 bis 1861 für Theodor Hermann Rimpau, den Leiter der Meliorationsarbeiten im Drömling, gebaut. Der Architekt war ein Schüler Karl Friedrich Schinkels. Der Baustil orientierte sich an Villen in Berlin-Tiergarten. 1905 übernahm ein Schwiegersohn Rimpaus, Wilhelm Beseler, das Gebäude. Es folgte 1909 ein Umbau im Stile der italienischen Renaissance. Im unteren Teil des Schlossturms befand sich ein Wintergarten.
Nach Beendigung des Zweiten Weltkriegs erfolgten Plünderungen und Zerstörungen, denen das wertvolle Mobiliar des Schlosses zum Opfer fiel. Es folgte bis 1949 eine Nutzung des Schlosses als Flüchtlingsunterkunft. Anschließend wurde das Gebäude zu einem Kulturhaus umgebaut. Die vier Gesellschaftsräume der ersten Etage wurden dafür zu einem großen Saal umgebaut.
