Gymnasiet Oedeme bærer sit navn efter bydelen i sydvest Lüneburg, hvor skolen ligger. Det har været en åbent heldagskole siden 2006; omkring 1500 elever undervises af ca. 125 lærere. Omkring 60 procent af eleverne kommer fra kommunen, ca. 40 procent fra byen Lüneburg.
Da gymnasiet blev grundlagt i 1971, var kommunen Oedeme stadig selvstændig og tilhørte kommunen Lüneburg, som også er ejer af gymnasiet Oedeme. Med integrationen i 1974 blev Oedeme en bydel af Lüneburg; således ligger gymnasiet i kommunen i dag inden for området af Hansestaden Lüneburg.
