Il Ginnasio di Oedeme prende il nome dal quartiere nel sud-ovest della città anseatica di Lüneburg, in cui si trova la scuola. È una scuola a tempo pieno aperta dal 2006; circa 1500 studenti sono insegnati da circa 125 docenti. Circa il 60% degli studenti proviene dal distretto, circa il 40% dalla città di Lüneburg.
Quando il ginnasio è stato fondato nel 1971, il comune di Oedeme era ancora autonomo e apparteniva al distretto di Lüneburg, che è anche il gestore del Ginnasio di Oedeme. Con l'inclusione nel 1974, Oedeme è diventato un quartiere di Lüneburg; pertanto, oggi il ginnasio del distretto si trova nel territorio della città anseatica di Lüneburg.
