Einruhr ligger i Nordeifel ved udmundingen af Erkensruhr, der kommer fra sydøst, i den sydlige arm af Obersee. Einruhr er en turistdestination i kanten af Eifel Nationalpark.
Einruhr ligger i en dal ved den lille flod Rur. I 1950'erne blev dæmningen ved Roerdaldam udvidet, hvilket medførte, at Einruhr måtte give land til søen. Landsbyen Pleushütte blev evakueret, beboerne måtte flytte andetsteds, og husene kom under vandoverfladen. Søen bidrager i betydelig grad til Einruhrs turistmæssige betydning.
