Einruhr is located in the North Eifel at the mouth of the Erkensruhr river from the south-southeast in the southern arm of the Obersee. Einruhr is a tourist resort on the edge of the Eifel National Park.
Einruhr is located in a valley of the river Roer. In the fifties of the 20th century, the reservoir created by the construction of the Roer Valley dam was expanded, forcing Einruhr to give up land to the lake. The hamlet of Pleushütte was evacuated, the inhabitants had to move elsewhere and the houses were submerged under the surface of the water. The lake is a major contributor to the tourist significance of Einruhr.
