Maleren Jan Van Eyck kom til Santiago de Compostela under sin rejse til Portugal i 1429. Han var medlem af en burgundisk delegation. Officielt kom han til Portugal for at male et portræt af prinsesse Isabella af Portugal. Den endelige hensigt var, at der skulle dannes en alliance mellem Bourgogne og Portugal gennem et ægteskab mellem Filip den Gode og Isabella. Jan Van Eyck deltog i forhandlingerne om ægteskabskontrakten.
