I Dordogne, i hjertet af Vézère-dalen mellem Le Bugue og Lascaux-hulen i Montignac, har byen Les Eyzies-de-Tayac formentlig fortjent sit kælenavn "Verdenshovedstad for forhistorie". Som en ideel introduktion til besøg af alle steder af menneskelig verdensarv, inviterer Nationalmuseet for forhistorie dig til at opdage de ældste spor, som mennesket har efterladt. Gennem den samtidsarkitektur kommer disse særligt godt til deres ret. Langs den kolossale klippe, der er en del af tidsrejsen, finder du i udstillingsrum stenredskaber, kunstgenstande lavet af knogler og elfenben, dermoplastik (livagtige reproduktioner af præhistoriske mennesker) og allerede uddøde dyr i overflod. De hjælper dig med at forstå udviklingen af samfundet i de sidste 400.000 år.
