Havnen Waldeck, der er en del af kommunen Eguelshardt, ligger ved foden af ruinerne af det samme navn slot. Waldeck-godset er nævnt allerede i år 960, men ikke endnu sit slot, bygget omkring slutningen af det 13. århundrede. Det bliver besiddelse af forskellige herregårde i løbet af sin historie.
Grænseposter blev opstillet i 1605 i regionen for at markere den nye grænse, der afgrænsede hertugdømmet Lorraine og grevskabet Hanau. Nogle af dem er stadig synlige i dag, ikke langt fra havnen Waldeck, ved kanten af Hanau skovvejen.
