Busten er lavet af Rimbauds svoger og blev indviet i 1901.
Fra 1914-1918 blev den ødelagt under krigen. I 1927 blev den erstattet af en byste af Alphonse Colle. I 1942-44: blev den smeltet under Vichy-regimet. I 1954: blev den erstattet af en byste af Dumont, baseret på den af Alphonse Colle.
Arthus Rimbaud var en af de største franske digtere og født i Charleville-Mézières.
