Det skulle føre til udviklingen af hans teori om tyngdekraften. Talrige efterkommere af dette æbletræ kan nu findes i Trinity College, Cambridge, i Cambridge University Botanic Garden og i Instituto Balseiro bibliotekshave i Argentina. Men her skulle altså det originale æbletræ stå.
