Dette slot, forskelligt kaldet et befæstet hus eller tårnhus, fik sit navn fra licensen til at præge mønter, der blev givet til Carlingford i 1467 af Edward IV. Dog stammer det nuværende tårn fra senere, enten det 15. eller 16. århundrede. Det menes at have huset en af Carlingfords velstående handelsfamilier; dog tyder manglen på en pejs og styrken af forsvarerne på, at det faktisk kan have fungeret som en mønt. Imod dette taler det faktum, at der aldrig er blevet fundet nogen mønt præget i Carlingford.
