Rathmacknee Slot er antaget at være bygget af John Rosseter, som blev udnævnt til seneschal for Liberty of Wexford omkring 1415. Andre beretninger forbinder byggeriet med hans barnebarn Thomas Rossiter, seneschal i 1493. Rossiterne forblev katolikker efter reformationen, men forblev loyale over for monarkiet og fortsatte med at holde deres lande. Col. Thomas Rosseter kæmpede imod Oliver Cromwell ved Wexford i de irske konfødererede krige, og slottet og jorden blev konfiskeret i 1654. Slottet forblev besat indtil 1760'erne. I det 19. århundrede blev det restaureret af sin ejer, Hamilton Knox Grogan Morgan.
