Se cree que el Castillo de Rathmacknee fue construido por John Rosseter, quien fue nombrado senescál de la Libertad de Wexford alrededor de 1415. Otros relatos asocian su construcción con su nieto Thomas Rossiter, senescál en 1493. Los Rossiter permanecieron católicos después de la Reforma, pero se mantuvieron leales a la monarquía y continuaron poseyendo sus tierras. El coronel Thomas Rosseter luchó contra Oliver Cromwell en Wexford durante las Guerras Confederadas Irlandesas y el castillo y las tierras fueron confiscados en 1654. El castillo permaneció ocupado hasta la década de 1760. En el siglo XIX fue restaurado por su propietario, Hamilton Knox Grogan Morgan.
