Il Castello di Rathmacknee si crede sia stato costruito da John Rosseter, che fu nominato senescallo della Libertà di Wexford intorno al 1415. Altri resoconti associano la sua costruzione con suo nipote Thomas Rossiter, senescallo nel 1493. I Rossiter rimasero cattolici dopo la Riforma ma rimasero leali alla monarchia e continuarono a detenere le loro terre. Il Colonnello Thomas Rosseter combatté contro Oliver Cromwell a Wexford durante le Guerre Confederative Irlandesi e il castello e le terre furono confiscati nel 1654. Il castello rimase occupato fino agli anni '60 del 1700. Nel 19° secolo fu restaurato dal suo proprietario, Hamilton Knox Grogan Morgan.
