Monumentet minder om, at her Koningin Wilhelmina den 13. marts 1945 satte fod på nederlandsk jord igen. Efter fem år i eksil under Anden Verdenskrig. Naboer trak dengang en symbolsk grænse med mel. Anden Verdenskrig har efterladt dybe spor i Vest-Zeeland med mange ofre og enorm materiel skade.
