Das Denkmal erinnert daran, dass hier Königin Wilhelmina am 13. März 1945 wieder niederländischen Boden betrat. Nach fünf Jahren im Exil während des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Anwohner haben damals mit Mehl eine symbolische Grenze gezogen. Der Zweite Weltkrieg hat tiefe Spuren in West Zeeuws-Vlaanderen hinterlassen, mit vielen Opfern und enormen Sachschäden.
