Distriktet Columbia eller Washington, D.C. [ˈwɔʃɪŋtn̩] er en føderal distrikt, regeringssæde og har været hovedstaden i USA siden 1800. Distriktet er ikke en delstat og tilhører heller ikke nogen, det er snarere direkte underlagt den amerikanske kongres. På trods af navnesamfundet med delstaten Washington kaldes Washington, D.C. i den tysktalende verden ofte bare "Washington". D.C. står for District of Columbia.
Ved folketællingen i 2010 havde Washington, D.C. 601.723 indbyggere. United States Census Bureau anslog indbyggertallet pr. 1. juli 2015 til 672.228 indbyggere, efter et konstant fald i befolkningen siden 1950, det første større fald. Storbyområdet Washington havde 5.582.170 indbyggere. Sammen med det nærliggende storbyområde Baltimore havde regionen ifølge censussen i alt 8.572.971 indbyggere.
