Es war hier im Kärntnertortheater, dass Beethoven seine Neunte Symphonie zum ersten Mal am Publikum am Freitag, den 7. Mai 1842 präsentierte. Es war ein unerwarteter, aber großer Erfolg. Beethoven bestand darauf, auch auf der Bühne zu stehen, neben dem Dirigenten, um das Tempo anzugeben. Und das war nicht so evident, denn wen sollte das Orchester dann ansehen, um das Tempo zu folgen? Darüber hinaus hatten sie nur 4 Tage Zeit gehabt, um das Stück einzuüben.
